The Toadies: a primer
(James VanOsdol’s blog)
Coming up on my show, debuting July 18: The Toadies.
I caught up with guitarist Clark Vogeler just before the release of the new Toadies album (Play.Rock.Music.) and their Chicago show with Helmet (at the House of Blues August 9).
To remind you of the fearsome rock power of the Toadies, here’s a quick primer:
“Possum Kingdom” – The mega-hit (top 10 Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock song in 1995) from Rubberneck. This song is probably playing on a handful of radio stations across America as you’re reading this.
“Summer of the Strange” – The first single from the new album. The video is twisted enough to encourage multiple viewings.
“Away” – Like “Possum Kingdom,” another Rubberneck breakthrough.
I Come From the Water (acoustic) – Nice acoustic peformance of the Rubberneck song.
Rattler’s Revival (boot) – One of Play.Rock.Music.’s standout tracks. The quality is shitty (it’s a bootleg video, after all), but hopefully you can look past that.
