Wipe Away The Doubt (Happy Paper Anniversary!)
We celebrated our first year as a subscription podcast service on August 1st, and I have been remiss in commenting on that. Between ordering the equipment for the live shows at L.Woods, actually doing the shows and heading out to CA to see my dad, I guess I kind of dropped the blogging ball as it were.
The shows at L.Woods were a blast and thanks to Rich Melman and Danny McGowan for their sincere support of this endeavor and also for their friendship over the years. It was fun to be back in front of a crowd on my own terms, and we plan to do a whole lot more of it. Send us an email if you have a spot that you think might be a fun spot. I also need to thank David Hochberg, and Wally, Tim and Mark Smithe for believing in what we are doing, and putting their money where my mouth is.
While I was in Los Angeles Robert Channick wrote a really great piece about our First year for the Tribune. Judging from the response we got to it, and the number of people who have mentioned it to me since I’ve returned home, people are finally taking what it is that we are doing here seriously. That’s a nice feeling. I still think we’re a little ahead of the curve, but mark my words, anyone who has a podcast worth listening to will be charging for it sooner rather than later. I always say that the pioneers get the arrows and the settlers get the land, but this time I’m determined to get me some of that land, even if my body is riddled with arrow holes (very Hunger games). Bob Channick’s article and the great turn out a L. Woods seemed like a nice turning point, if not even a bit of a tipping point for our little podcast network.
So thanks to all of you who have been there since day one, those of you who have discovered us along the way and even to you hold-outs who finally gave in and plunked down your hard-earned dollars to give The Steve Dahl Network a try. With Kevin, James, Dino, Matt and Brendan, and the lovely and talented me in the stable, how can you not want to take a chance on us?
Also, know that we are constantly working on ways to upgrade and enhance your user experience. The apps will keep getting better, you will have more options in terms of the way you choose to listen, and we are always keeping our ears peeled for the next best thing. There aren’t a lot of places to look anymore, but for my money Matt and Brendan are the best new thing I’ve heard in quite some time.
We started with one show and now we have five (not counting the weekly descent into the Dahl Archives) and we haven’t raised our price one red cent for year number two. That’s our way of saying “thanks for being there for us”. Later, SD
