Kevin Matthews Show
The radio voice of Kevin Matthews has been heard on airways in the Midwest for over 25 years. Kevin and his cast of characters, including the wildly popular Jim Shorts, entertained listeners of Chicago radio for nearly two decades and, along with Steve Dahl, helped lead the charge of wildly funny and outlandish talk radio.
Kev, as he prefers to be called, began his radio career in 1978 at a student radio station in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduating from Grand Valley State University, Kevin worked his way up through the Grand Rapids radio market, eventually landing his own gig as the host of what would quickly become Western Michigan’s most popular radio show.
In 1984, Kev left Grand Rapids and made a brief pit-stop in St. Louis, before landing in Chicago on WLUP, the Loop, the most popular radio station in the country. The legion of “Kevheads”, a name for his fans that began in Michigan, was growing day by day and were now found all over the Midwest. It was here at WLUP that Kevin developed his wildly popular alter-ego, sports radio announcer, Jim Shorts. This character became a significant part of the Chicago sports scene and hosted interviews and appearances with the likes of Mike Ditka and Michael Jordan. In 1998, Kevin left the Loop and joined ABC radio in Chicago, where he stayed until 2001, when he returned to his roots in Grand Rapids, MI, to continue broadcasting to his beloved “Kevheads”.
Kevin has done it all, baby. He has performed his characterizations and comedy in front of thousands of fans at venues such as Alpine Valley, the Park West and “The Vic”. He has appeared on stage with notable comedians such as Jerry Seinfeld, Dana Carvey and Mike Myers. He even appeared in an episode of “Baywatch” in the early 90’s. Kevin also has a passion for cooking and wrote a cookbook titled “This Book Could Kill You – Recipes To Die For”, which features his favorite recipes and stories from the heart.
In December 2011, Kevin joined Steve Dahl and his podcast network. The Kevin Matthew’s show is a bi-weekly podcast featuring his wide array of characters, Jim Shorts included, 30+ years of radio archives and music from up and coming artists and bands. The show is Kevin Matthews at his best and is available to “Kevheads” who are subscribers to The Steve Dahl Network.
